              No Child Left Behind

The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001 was signed into law on January 8, 2002. The Act represents the President's education reform plan and contains the most sweeping changes to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) since it was enacted in 1965. NCLB Changes the federal government's role in K-12 education by focusing on school success as measured by student achievement. The Act also contains the President's four basic education reform principles:

>stronger accountability for results,
>increased flexibility and local control,
>expanded options for parents, and
>
an emphasis on teaching methods that have been proven to work.

Title I Title I Schools are designated because the percentage of students from low-income families attending these schools is greater than the total percentage of students from low-income families in the district.  These schools receive additional funding to provide supplemental after school and summer programs for at-risk students.  Parents/Guardians of Title I-eligible students are notified of their opportunity to participate on the parent advisory committee.  Parents/Guardians work with teachers and school administrators to develop the School-Home Compact, a document which outlines how the school staff and family will work together to provide services for at-risk students.

Supplemental Educational Services (SES)
Students from low-income families who attend Title I Schools may be eligible to receive SES services if their school has not made adequate yearly progress (AYP) for more than two consecutive years.  These services generally include afterschool, Saturday, and/or summer tutoring in math and literacy.  The SES Provider must be state-approved and is chosen by the parent/guardian.  Parents/Guardians of SES-eligible students will receive notification in late August outlining the procedure for selecting an SES provider and securing tutoring services for their child.
